Friday is for Friends & Family - Barry Brown

I had the privilege of hanging out with my good friend Barry Brown the past few days. Barry is available to speak to youth or parents about family ministry through Divine Perspectives.
Barry and I traveled to Orlando to attend the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting.

Upon arrival at the hotel I shared with him how the Divine Perspectives ministry is progressing. I shared how exciting it is to see this blog grow. I shared how many new contacts I've made through twitter. I shared that attending the Exponential conference in Orlando in April had produced many new connections and great exposure for DP. I shared how a new focus combined with the various social media platforms has driven web traffic.
Then I laughed and told him that despite all of this, people are not booking speakers through Divine Perspectives. I shared that all of my personal speaking engagements have come though my traditional connections and nobody, including myself, has yet to be booked through DP.

Barry's response is the reason I value his friendship. Without hesitation he shrugged his shoulders and said, "It's not its season yet", then continued unpacking his bag.

Concise, to the point, straightforward, and completely nonchalant. That's Barry! I knew that Barry was right. I knew the truth of what he said before he even said it. I just wasn't ready to come to terms with it.

Proverbs 16:9 says,
"In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps."

Barry's words were a powerful reminder that despite the power of vision and long term goals, each day it is God who determines the next step. Have no doubt that God provides vision, just remember that he doesn't fast forward you to the fulfillment of that vision, he brings you one step at a time.
